Testimonials

"Hi Mark. I would like to thank GWS New Boundaries for the professional way that they dealt with my initial query right through until installation of the fence. The modular fence looks fantastic - I couldn't be happier and the whole process was made so easy with Mark and Michelle's help throughout the process. It was an initial consultation, quote provided soon after and then the fence was installed, painted and rendered within weeks with minimal disruption - and actual installation taking only 2 days. Fantastic result."

Kind Regards Lisa Honeychurch

Modular Wall Specifications

The Modular Wall is a light weight wall system that is designed to replicate the look of a rendered masonry wall but without the cost and hassles. It allows the user to rapidly erect a masonry look wall and requires less infrastructure support i.e. cranes & heavy digging equipment. This translates to enhanced safety on site due to its light weight and ease of handling.

The wall is a completely modular system which ensures close to zero wastage, saving both cost and almost completely eliminating mess during construction.

The Modular Wall System is comprised of composite fibre cement sandwich panels supported by a unique post system. The post system holds the panels in a rigid position whilst still allowing room for expansion and ground movement internally within the post.

When erected the wall displays amazing brick like strength.

All the panels are internally recessed to accept wiring for a number of different services. Lighting, Sound, Security etc...

Some advantages are:

  • MWS requires only a small posthole footing that can be dug by hand. So no need for expensive strip footings.
  • Our composite sandwich panels are lightweight and super strong, any expansion and movement can take place within the unique post system meaning the wall will never crack.
  • Modular construction means there is no wastage of materials with minimum site disturbance during installation.
  • Acoustically rated as a noise barrier.

Wall Styles

Contemporary

Contemporary walls have an overall panel thickness of 40mm and a 90mm top wall capping. Posts measure 150 (face) x 100 mm. Each standard panel has an effective coverage of 2.5 or 2.8 meters, post centre to post centre. The contemporary wall is the most cost effective of the 3 styles and most commonly used in boundary wall applications.

Traditional Wall

Traditional walls have an overall panel thickness of 75mm and a 120mm top wall capping. Posts measure 250 (face) x 150 mm. (designed around a rendered brick width). Each standard panel has an effective coverage of 2.6, 2.9 or 3.2 meters, post centre to post centre. The Traditional wall is most commonly used were a true rendered masonry wall look is desired. The post face is equivalent to a brick in width. The wall has excellent sound reduction qualities (NAL test available upon request).

Estate Wall

Estate walls have an overall panel thickness of 75mm and a 120mm top wall capping. Posts measure 350 (face) x 235 mm. (designed around a rendered brick and a half width). Each standard panel has an effective coverage of 2.7, 3.0 or 3.3 meters, post centre to post centre. The Estate wall is most commonly used were a true rendered masonry wall look is desired. The post face is equivalent to a brick & a half in width. The wall has excellent sound reduction qualities (NAL test available upon request).

Barrier Wall

Get privacy, security, and noise insulation for your premises with an attractive functional barrier wall and without the high construction costs. The panels have internal recesses to accommodate electrical cable for security camera's, lighting, intercoms etc. No longer does a commercial or barrier wall have to look like one! Have the same pleasing look of a domestic wall just taller.

Technical Specifications Overview

PANELS

  • Wall panels are a fibre cement/polystyrene composite sandwich panel manufactured by us to rigid quality guidelines.
  • An average panel weight is 35kg (2400 x 900)
  • Panel thickness is 40 or 75mm.

POSTS

The posts are designed and manufactured by us to our tight specifications from high tensile G550 material. This has been galvanized, dyna primed and coated on both sides with a special paint to enhance performance and accept all the modern acrylic coatings.

Impact Tested

SHOT PUT TEST

TEST OVERVIEW
A 4kg Shot Put is dropped onto a supported panel and the deflection and impact damage measured and assessed.

TEST
Height: 3.0m drop MWS 75mm Sound panel supported as per installation method
Location test: MWS Factory NSW
Wall Type: Barrier Type Wall (75mm panel)
Deflection rate: 8mm maximum average depression depth.
Panel serviceability after impact: Still Serviceable
Panel structural integrity: Unaffected
Panel Repairable: Yes

CONCLUSION
The panel was both structurally and visually serviceable after the impact. No immediate repair was necessary & non-repair of the panel would not be detrimental to the performance of the panel's intended function.

LOAD TESTING (NT-DTC Requirement)

  • Panel Load testing was carried out under supervision by a Cyclonic certifying structural engineer to comply with the Northern Territory DTC requirements.
  • The panel was supported at either end and uniformly loaded and the deflection was measured at every layer of bricks.
  • The 75mm panel had a load rating of 750 kg, see pictures below.

DURABILITY

The walls will easily resist the impact of domestic life, ballgames bikes etc.

If the wall is accidentally penetrated it can easily be repaired by an over the counter exterior patching system.

An advantage of the MWS system over heavier alternatives is if struck at speed there are no dangerous and heavy shards to injure the public.

If a panel is damaged beyond reasonable repair, complete panels can easily be replaced in approx 15 minutes.

Flexibility is another key feature, the modular construction allows features such as slats, water features etc. to be incorporated into the walls thus allowing for the breakup of long runs and to allow breezeways.

The MWS system is backed by a factory warranty of 10 years against faulty manufacture.

Wind Class [Regions A & B (non cyclonic), Region C (cyclonic)]

Wind region A - with ultimate limit state design gust wind speeds up to 50 meters/second or 180kph.
Wind region B - up to 50 meters/second or 180 kph
Wind region C - up to 60 meters/second or 216 kph

Topographic Class - T1, T2, T3, T4, T5

The Topographic class determines the effect of wind on a house because of its location on a hill, ridge, or escarpment and the height and average slope of the hill, ridge or escarpment.

Please consult MWS for help in determining your topographic class.

Shielding Class - FS (full shielding), PS (partial shielding), NS (no shielding)

FULL SHIELDING (FS) - Typical suburban developments greater or equal to 10 houses or similar size obstructions per hectare.

PARTIAL SHIELDING (PS) - This applies to intermediate situations where are least 2.5 houses, trees, sheds or similar size obstructions per hectare. Wind regions C & D, heavily wooded areas will be classed as having partial shielding.

NO SHIELDING (NS) - This applies when there are no permanent obstructions or where there are less than 2.5 obstructions per hectare. An example of this could be the first 2 rows of housing abutting open parklands, airfields or coast line.

Determine Your Terrain Category

Terrain Categories - TC1, TC2, TC2.5, TC3

Choose the terrain category that best describes the area in which your Modular wall will be installed. If you are unsure of your terrain category or are planning on building a wall on the top of a hill or the edge of a cliff or in terrain category 1 etc, please contact us directly for specific engineering advice.

CATEGORY 1 (TC1) - Exposed and open areas with very few obstructions. This is not a common terrain category and exists only in flat, plant and treeless plains of at least 10km in width.

CATEGORY 2 (TC2) - Open Terrain such as sea coasts, airfields, open fields and paddocks, grassland with few scattered obstructions, such as isolated trees and uncut grass, having heights from 1.5 to 10m.

CATEGORY 2.5 (TC2.5) - Terrain with few isolated obstructions and trees such as agricultural land, cane fields or long grass. This is an intermediate class in between TC2 and TC3 and represents the terrain in developing outer urban areas.

CATEGORY 3 (TC3) - This terrain category has numerous closely spaced obstructions such as suburban housing. (3.0 meters to 5.0 meters high)
